Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Selected as "2022 Data Youth Campus University" for the Second Consecutive Year

President Jeong-woon Park of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) announced on the25th that it has been selected as the "2022 Data Youth Campus Operating University" for the second consecutive year, equipped with educational capabilities optimized for cultivating data science talents.

 

Organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and hosted by the Korea Data Agency (K-data),this project is a practical-oriented education program that meets the demands of companies, conducted by the leading universities in the field of big data technology. It aims to foster big data talents with support for employment in the big data sector provided by the Korea Data Industry Promotion Agency and related companies.

 

Professor Il-chul Du, the lead for the "2022 Data Youth Campus Operating University" project, explained, "The importance of natural language processing based on language engineering is increasing due to the expansion of the market following advancements in natural language processing technology. "He further stated, "The curriculum will be operated from the perspective of applied linguistics that suits the characteristics of HUFS, covering topics such as introduction to language engineering, machine learning and deep learning, natural language processing, as well as basic and advanced projects, project-based practical training in collaboration with industry mentors, team projects using Kaggle Competition, and specialized natural language processing training focusing on the Korean language."

 

Industry experts from HUFS’s AI Education Institute and Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation, as well as companies such as Twigfarm and Spigen Korea, will participate as mentors for practical projects. Particularly this year, it was announced that after completing practical training, cooperation will be established with companies in the local area, including the city of Yongin andt he Yongin Promotion Agency, to provide internships and even employment opportunities.

 

Since being selected as a software-centered university in 2019, HUFS has been conducting practical-oriented education to cultivate "global convergence experts pioneering the AI era." One of the representative educational programs is the "Natural Language Processing-Based Deep Learning Technology Integration Course."

 

In this project, support will be provided for obtaining professional certifications in the field of data, such as SQL Developer (SQLD) and Associate Data Scientist(ADsP), and customized employment information will be provided for job placement. Excellent project teams will have the opportunity to participate in competitions, and they will be given the chance to attend the ICT Platform Society's Autumn Academic Conference and AI Convergence Technology Seminar.

 

Anyone under the age of 34 who is an unemployed data-related major can apply. Recruitment will take place in May, and project-based education will be conducted in July and August. The education fees will be fully supported by the government.
